More about my service

Financial Coaching

As a financial coach it is my responsibility to get to know you by learning about your past and present, as well as what you would like your future to look like. That is where we begin our journey, during our introductory meeting. It is also a time when you get to know me. Together we will determine if I am the right coach for you. If I am, then we will begin to dig into the details during our first session. We will work together to come up with a game plan to get you from where you are to where you want to be. This will be different for every client. So it is not possible for me to elicit the step-by-step instructions/tasks thatwill be done prior to meeting you. They are never the same for any two clients. But the theme that is common across clients is to get organized, establish a budget, put a plan together with clearly defined goals, and work the plan together. This is all done to help you get your footing, get out of debt, build an emergency fund, and get on the road to financial freedom!

About

It's all about having stability that nobody sees

Look at my logo.  It is an illustration of a cruise ship.  What do you see when you look at a real cruise ship?  You see a beautiful ship on which there are happy, carefree people enjoying themselves. That is above the water line and visible to anyone who looks. The cruise ship effortlessly moves through the water.

But what happens when the cruise ship hits rough waters? The ship would wildly rock side to side! The people on board would panic! There would be confusion and disarray! That is also happens when someone lives check-to-check, without a budget, with a pile of debt, and without an emergency fund! They can’t handle “rough waters” such as a job loss, extended illness, failure of furnace/AC requiring an immediate replacement, or other unexpected situations.

Well, cruise ships are prepared for rough waters. They have stabilizing fins below the water line to keep the ship steady during rough waters. They stick out of each side of the ship when needed to keep the ship stable. Therefore even though there are rough waters, everyone on the ship still feels calm and safe because the ship is stable. Nobody sees them, but they are there.

People who have a budget that ensures they are spending less than they are earning, have no debt (other than a mortgage for their primary residence), and a 3-6 month emergency have the equivalent of stabilizing fins! They can handle “rough waters” until the waters are calm again. Further than that, they are already well positioned to quickly rebuild their emergency funds. And like stabilizing fins, nobody can see that you have financial freedom. And you can’t see that other people don’t. They might have bigger houses, fancier cars, more lavish vacations, but if a storm hits, they are sunk while you will be just fine.

Where did you receive your training?

In addition to the life experience of getting myself out of significant debt, I successfully completed Dave Ramsey's Financial Coach Master Training. My coaching is based on his principals and philosophies.

What is the difference between a finanial coach and a financial advisor?

How many sessions does it take to complete financial coaching?

This will vary from client to client because everyone's situation is different. My goal is always to help you achieve your goals as quickly as possible. We will work together to develop an initial game plan and then regularly review it and adjust as needed.

How long is each session?

My sessions are 1 hour long. I find this is enough time to check in to see how you are doing, review results from the previous session, prepare tasks to be completed before the next session, and answer questions along the way.

How often will we have sessions?

This is up to you. Typically they can occur every 3 to 4 weeks so you have enough time to complete the tasks we agree need to be done. But this is not set in stone. I will work with you at a faster or slower pace if needed.

What are your expectations of me/us?

They are fairly simple:

  • Be on time to the session.
  • If you must cancel or reschedule you will let me know at least 24 hours in advance.
  • Be prepared.
  • Don't be stressed if you were not able to get all the tasks completed.
  • If we are meeting via Zoom and you are at home, have a distraction-free place from which you can meet.
  • Don't be afraid to ask any questions.

How much do you charge?

During our complementary consultation, for which there is no charge, if we determine we are a good fit for each other we will review the fee structure. The fees are based on hourly rates and there are discounts available for booking multiple sessions.

What forms of payment do you accept?

My preferred payment methods are cash, check, and Zelle. However I also accept payments via PayPal, Venmo, and Square in which case I will generate a payment request for you to make payment. If using any of these payment methods I ask that you only use debit cards or direct bank account debit. The services will not allow me to prevent the use of credit cards, but it is my hope that you will not increase your debt by using a credit card.
